Assalamualaikum anak-anak.
By now we're reaching the end of the week and your semester break will start soon. It's rather a long break, 2-weeks long to be exact. I hope you will have fun. But on top of that I want you to be safe.
I almost forgot how does it feel being a freshie. Not that I aged a lot. No ;) but because I moved a bit forward now. But I remember, in my first semester of my diploma, it's when I met my lifelong friends. I will sit at the front of every class and start every class with my doa, even if the lecturer did not ask to. There were two of us initially. And then when we started to have group projects I need to 'scout' at least three more. Scout means I handpick, I tapis who I want to gang up with. That may sounds poyo but I believe it is a good idea to surround yourself with good-natured, positive people. So there were five of us in the end. Turn out each of my friends was even better than myself in many ways - well I thought I was the coolest. We had each other's back. I'm the biggest nerd, while my friends have their important role in other areas which were countless! Note taking, datelines, schemes, protocol, procedures, policies - I definitely won't do well if they weren't around! In fact I slacked up right after we were separated. So sad of me.
I would say I'm rather an introvert. But I have to agree with the saying "If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together."
It's only the beginning my dear. Be a good candidate for a team player. Be a lifelong friend.

Coming here to UiTM Pulau Pinang
means everything to me. It is my first stepping stone to become a successful
person and to make my parents proud and happy. After I got my acceptance letter
from UiTM Shah Alam to further my studies in Food Service Management under the
Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism at UiTM Pulau Pinang, I was both nervous, sad
and excited at the same time. I was nervous because I never knew how I will survive
while living here as I never went to a boarding school before and I was sad
because I would live far away from my parents. I am known as a rebellious but
pampered daughter so I can’t imagine waking up every day without seeing my parents
every morning before I go to class.
For the first week, we need to
get involved in MDS which is also known as Minggu Destini Siswa for a week. I
need to wake up at 5am and sleep at 3am because after the program ended at
12am, I will rushed to my room and washed and ironed my own clothes because I never
done these things before as I have a maid at my home and she is the person who
will do all these stuff for me. I got really sick during the first week because
I was so exhausted due to lack of rest and sleep. I am a very spoiled girl but living here has
taught me so many things and one of it is how to be an independent person. I
can’t depend on other people here so I need to stand on my own two feet for the
first time in my life. It’s hard at the beginning but Alhamdulillah, I am
getting used to it. I made lots of
friends during the first week at MDS and everyone is nice ad friendly. After a
week of not seeing my parents , I finally met them because they had to go to
Alor Setar to send my older sister there and dropped by in UiTM Penang to pick
me up before going to Alor Setar. I was so happy to be with my parents again
and seeing their faces ease all my troubles and worries away. Only god knows how much I
missed them while I was away from them for a week. I went back to my college
again on Sunday and that following week was when our classes started.
Our classes started on the second
week and it had been a hectic week for me and my classmates because we need to
find our own class. All of our lecturers are so nice and friendly too. They
ease my nervousness away because of their friendliness. So right after my class
ended, I will either go to the library to read some books there or I will go
back to my room to have my lunch or to rest. In the evening, I will jog with my
friend and have dinner. I will always order plain rice with omellete and tom yam
for my dinner. It is actually my favourite dish and it is cheap too! Baiduri
Cafeteria’s always serve the best food and their prices are affordable too!
That was my daily routine while I am at UiTM Pulau Pinang during the past two
weeks.
Now that I have settled down and
getting comfortable at UiTM Pulau Pinang, my aim is to study hard and get the
best result for my Diploma in Food Services Management and also to make my
parents proud of me.
